Here are some tips that you can use to save money when grocery shopping.
Make a list and stick to it
Before you go grocery shopping go through your kitchen and make a list of items that you are out of or need. Then stick to your list when grocery shopping to avoid any impulse buys.
Set a budget
Create a budget for how much you want to spend on groceries each month then divide it by week. For example, if I wanted to spend $600 a month for a family of four then I would do 600/4= 150 a week to spend on groceries.
Pick one day to go grocery shopping
Pick one day to do your grocery shopping to avoid going to the story every single day when you realize you need something.
Meal plan
Go through your pantry and see what meals you can make using what you have on hand first. Then make a list of what you need to get when grocery shopping per what I mentioned above. This will allow you to save both time and money by not staring at your fridge and wondering what’s for dinner.
Buy generic brands
Most food tastes the same it’s just a different label.
Compare prices
Look at the price per unit to help you find the best deal. Sometimes the name brand might be cheaper than the generic version or vice versa.
Buy extra when there is a good deal/sale
I like to keep a price list with items I frequently use so when I see it go on sale I buy a few more. But I don’t clear the entire shelf so other people can benefit from the deal and they can get what they need.
Buy produce when it’s in season
When you buy produce in the season it can also be more sustainable. Since the produce is not being delivered from another state or somewhere far away.
Skip convenience foods
You can save money and eat healthier by skipping convenience items such as salad mixes, tv dinners, and presliced produce.
