In today’s blog post I am going to talk about menstrual products and periods. I decided to write a blog post series where I review low waste period swaps. My goal with this series is to share my experience with people and help make talking about menstruation less awkward. I always like reading product reviews before purchasing items so I thought that I would give it a try writing my first review.
Why I chose to try period underwear
I tried Thinx underwear but there are other companies that make period underwear. I liked how they can easily be washed and worn over and over.
Thinx offers sizes from XXS to 3xl with prices range from 30-40 dollars depending on the style and absorbency. They are a little expensive upfront but they can save you money long-term because they are reusable. I bought my Thinx when they were on sale and combined them with a referral code to save money. I chose the hiphugger with moderate absorbency which can hold up to three tampons worth.

Do you still use tampons, pads, or menstrual products when using period underwear?
. I still use tampons or pads with Thinx Underwear especially when my flow is heavier. I have tried only wearing period underwear for a day when I was on my period and I did not feel comfortable.
How do you wash your period underwear?
I rinse the period underwear under cool water and let them soak in a bucket of cold water until I throw them in with my laundry. I use cool water so the stains do not set.
What if they do not fit or I don’t like them?
You can return or exchange your Thinx at the website Thinx | Returns & Exchanges (shethinx.com).
My overall experience with Thinx
Overall I think that Thinx underwear is priced reasonably since it can be washed and reused again. I still plan on wearing Thinx underwear and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested.
The only downside I have is the packaging because it says “made from recycled materials. Recycle me again”. This makes it harder for the consumer to decide if the packaging is eligible to be put in curbside recycling. Furthermore, Thinx is really transparent about their underwear so this is the next thing that they could focus on.
