None of these gift ideas or brands are sponsored, they came up when I was researching gift ideas.
Today I am going to be sharing low waste gift ideas as a part of my low waste gift guide series. I will be posting a series of blog posts up until Christmas with ideas to help you find the right gift during the holiday season.
It’s important to think about who are you giving to and if they will use the gift. I have compiled a list of gift ideas that can fit a variety of budgets to get you started. I chose gifts based on quality toys that were versatile and durable.
- Green Toys
The toys are made out of recycled plastic and are packaged in cardboard.
2. Wood or felt play food
3. Pretend play
- dress up clothes
4. Building toys
- Legos
- Lincoln logs
- Wood or cardboard blocks
- Magnatiles
5. Art Supplies
- Eco kids brand art supplies
- Sprout Pencils
- Pencils made of recycled newspaper
- Recycled rubber erasers
- Buying paint and glue in bulk and refill smaller containers
- DIY Crayons made of old or broken crayons and you can find ideas on Pinterest.
6. Fun Pajamas
7. Books
8. Non-toxic Nail Polish
If you have or know kids that enjoy using nail polish there are brands that make nail polish designed for kids. Some examples are Piggy Paint, Ella, and Milla, and Suncoat Girl that you can find at Target, Walmart, or online stores such as Amazon. I listed nail polish even though it isn’t “zero waste” because I wanted to share some more sustainable alternatives for people that still want to use nail polish.
9. Experience
I found ideas from this blog post by Big Life Journal. You can present the gift in an envelope or include an item associated with the experience.
Trail or outdoor experience: Magnifying glass, binoculars
Beach: Towel or pail and shovel
Cooking class: Apron or cooking supplies
A pamphlet or brochure of what you are going to do
10. Magazine subscription
11. Snow gear
12. Rain gear
13. Sleeping bag
I was given an L.L.Bean sleeping bag as a kid that stood the test of time and I loved using it for camping trips and sleepovers.
