One way that I try to save money when grocery shopping is to keep a price list with the best prices to stock up.
This is something that I learned a few years ago from a blogger online. What you do is keep a list of common pantry items that you use with the best stock up price. Then when you go grocery shopping and you see that an item is on sale you know if it is a good time to grab one or two extra boxes of pasta etc. I am not saying clear the shelf because sales usually go on sale every six weeks rotation. Also, you want to make sure that other customers are able to buy what you need.
How do I create a price list?
- Write down common ingredients or staples that you use in your meals. This can be eggs, milk, cereal, ground beef anything that you use often. I keep my price list on a memo on my phone for easy access when I go grocery shopping.
- Organize your price list by category and store if you want this part depends on how you prefer to organize your price list
- Write down the best price for when you should buy an extra one or two of a product when it goes on sale. For me I know to buy more pasta when it’s less than a dollar a box. Or when butter goes on sale for $2.50-3 an lb I buy extra butter. Then I can store it in the pantry or freezer and when I am out of an ingredient I don’t need to pay full price at a store.
But Liz how does a price list save me money?
I’m glad that you asked that question. When you plan your grocery shopping trip you can look at the circulars and take note of any sales. If they match or are lower than the best price on your list then you know to buy a few more. A price list allows you to avoid paying full price for items when grocery shopping.
