A Car Emergency kit is something that everyone should keep in their car. But what you put in your kit will depend on your needs and where you live. I used AAA and FEMA as resources for what should go in a roadside emergency kit.

For example, everyone in my household has a AAA membership that includes roadside assistance. I also don’t drive long distances or in rural areas so I don’t see the need to buy certain things like jumper cables or flares. But we do always have items like maps and an extra blanket in the car. It really does depend on each person’s situation.

Items that you should put in your emergency kit

  1. Change of Clothes

2. Blanket

3. Nonperishable snacks

4. Fire extinguisher

5. jumper cables

6. flares or reflective triangles

7. Car escape tool

8. First aid kit

9. Road maps

10. Water (Make sure not to leave water in the car on extremely hot days)

11. Hygiene items such as tampons or pads

12. Trash bag

13. Paper Towels

Additional Supplies you may need

  • Items for pets
  • Items for kids or babies such as diapers or formula
  • Prescription Medications
  • Paper and Pencil
  • Book, Card Game, or something to keep you occupied if you are waiting for help
  • Cloth Face masks
