Frugal Wins
- Buying discounted tickets
I bought discounted tickets for King Richard’s Faire next year. Every year they offer a 10 dollar discount with no black-out dates on tickets that can be used anytime during the fair. But this deal only happens from Black Friday to Christmas Eve. I bought tickets now because I plan to go next year and they don’t offer many discounts often.
- Buying gift wrap and christmas candy the day after Christmas
The day after Christmas I went shopping and bought gift wrap along with holiday candy. I chose labels/gift tags that I can use for next year. I bought tissue paper and boxes that I can use year-round. Then I bought candy/baking items that I can use within the next few months.
Frugal Fails
- Live Action Cinderella Ballgown
I bought the ballgown secondhand from a seller in a cosplay Facebook group. The reason I bought it was I really wanted to do more princess cosplays. However, I only slept on it before buying the dress instead of following the 72-hour rule. The 72-hour rule is if you see something you want when you write it down and wait. After the 72-hours pass, you can buy the item if you still really want it. I like this rule because it forces me to be more intentional with how I spend my money.
- I bought two books from Barnes and Noble
In December Barnes and Noble was having a 50% off all hardcovers sale. I ended up buying Shadowplay by Joseph O Connor along with One of Us is Next by Karen M McManus. I usually borrow books from the library or purchase books second-hand to save money. I like to read and I already have a lot of books at home so that’s another reason why I don’t buy books very often. So buying new books is something that I consider a splurge.
- I impluse bought a 28 dollar bracelet
I bought a bracelet from a small business that I had been eying. I saw the bracelet at a craft fair and I didn’t know the store that I was in sold them. I consider this a frugal fail because I did wait a couple of months before my purchase. However, I don’t wear jewelry including bracelets very often.
