Frugal vacation in Cape Cod

Here is an overview of how I saved money on a vacation in Cape Cod Massachusetts. This month I traveled to Cape Cod to be the maid of honor at my sister’s wedding. The wedding was small with only 45 people due to the pandemic and we were all vaccinated. My family decided to turn the wedding into a vacation at the Cape.

Itinerary/What we did

Day 1 Saturday: Travel and Wedding prep

We drove down to the Cape and went to the rehearsal dinner. They had a wood fire pizza truck cater and the food was delicious

Day 2 Sunday: Wedding day

The bridal party met in the morning at the wedding location which was a beautiful beach resort. We ate breakfast together that I and my mom prepared for everyone. We kept it simple and brought mini muffins, banana bread, and fruit, Then we got our hair styled and some people got their makeup professionally done.

Day 3 Monday: We explored Chatham in the morning and spent time at the beach reading in the afternoon.

Day 4 Tuesday: We took a walk to the beach in the morning. Then we explored downtown Hyannis with a family friend. The afternoon was spent reading at the beach again.

Day 5 Wednesday: We went to the Heritage Museums and Gardens. Then in the afternoon, a friend of mine came down to hang out on the cape with me until Saturday.

Day 6 Thursday: I and my friend spent the morning at the beach. Then we had lunch at the vacation house and did some shopping in downtown Hyannis. Finally, we went to a general store and carnival in the evening. I got some holiday shopping done early.

Day 7 Friday: We went kayaking in the morning through Bass River Kayaks and Paddle Boards. Then we got pizza for lunch and spent the afternoon exploring Chatham again.

How we saved money

  • We brought food and cooked at the vacation rental. I helped my mom pack up food from our pantry and fridge so we did not waste any food. Then we did some grocery shopping for the rest of the food. We saved a lot of money by not eating out every single day. We only went out to each twice during vacation.
  • We drove down to the cape and this saved us money because we only had to pay for a tank of gas.
  • We chose mostly inexpensive activities such as exploring nearby towns and going to the beach. We then chose a few more expensive activities such as the carnival and kayaking that we budgeted for. For example, we chose Bass River Kayaks and Paddleboards because they offered the best deal for kayaking.
  • I was mindful of what I bought on vacation. I bought a few things from local businesses such as new candy, gifts, and a few kitchen items.
  • My mom was very geerous and payed for the vacation rental that we stayed in

Have you ever been to Cape Cod? If so what is your favorite thing to do or memory?
