Comparing Ibotta vs Fetch rewards

*This is not sponsored by Ibotta or fetch and all opinions are my own. I have included my referral codes for Ibotta and Fetch rewards where I get cashback if you enter my code when you sign up and it costs you nothing extra.

Ibotta and fetch are apps that reward you for grocery shopping. All you have to do is scan your grocery receipt from retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, DollarTree, and CVS to earn gift cards. I wanted to compare these two popular rewards apps and compare them based on my experience with using both of them. But grocery shopping rewards apps are not the only ways to save money. Now it’s time to compare both apps and weigh the pros and cons.

Ibotta (referral code rudkalo)

When you shop online or buy certain products that can be redeemed for gift cards Ibotta rewards you with cashback that can be redeemed for gift cards. Also, Ibotta offers cashback on non-grocery products.

Pros

  • They offer a small percent cashback if you shop online at certain stores
  • offers team and individual shopping challenges for the chance to earn more cash back.
  • Also offers cash back options at retailers that aren’t
  • The rewards are shown in cash making it easier to understand how much you Ibotta is rewarding you.

Cons

  • You earn cash back only by buying the products they are offering rewards for. When they do offer any item cashback it is usually .10 to .50 sometimes it is higher such as a $1.
  • You have to click on the + button next to a product before scanning your receipt or you do not earn the rewards.
  • There is a $20 minimum to be able to withdraw your rewards
  • The app can take a lot of storage space on your phone
  • If you don’t scan a receipt for 6 months Ibotta will deduct a $3.99 fee from your Ibotta account, not your bank account until your balance reaches zero.

Fetch Rewards (Referral code TMG5U, when you sign up and scan your first receipt we both get 2,000 points)

Fetch works the same way as Ibotta but instead they reward you based on what brands you purchase instead of specific items.

Pros

  • For every receipt that you scan you are rewarded points regardless of how much or what you bought. It is not usually much around 100 points but it can add up.
  • 3,000 points minimum to redeem for a gift card and 3,000 points would be worth a $3 gift card.
  • easy withdrawal process
  • often offers receipt bonuses
  • E-Receipt option where you can connect your email or Amazon account and get cash back when you grocery shop online.

Cons

  • Fetch is not always clear on how many points you are getting when purchasing certain brands
  • The points can be confusing if you are trying to figure out how much money you are saving.
  • If you do not scan a receipt for 90 days or more. Fetch rewards will deem your account inactive and you lose any points that you have.
  • the e-receipt option has some limits
    • only compatible with Gmail, Outlook, AOL, Yahoo, and Amazon account currently
    • Only accepts e-receipts from certain retailers including Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart, Jet, Peapod, Boxed, Amazon and more.

Overall

I think that it depends on the person and how often they go grocery shopping and what they prefer. If someone buys mainly generic or non-name brand food then the apps would not be worth it. Since both give you cash back or points for regardless of what you buy but it is not a lot. Meanwhile, if you wanted to be able to redeem rewards faster than fetch rewards would be for you. Ibotta and Fetch Rewards are subject to change their terms at any time and I encourage you to do your research. I have included the terms of use for each one in this post.
