Here are some frugal ways to celebrate fall in a sustainable way. Some people might not be able to do certain activities depending on what is open right now. So I tried to find a mix of at-home and social distance activities that you can do.
1. Pumpkin carving
-roast pumpkin seeds or compost remains when done/pumpkin starts to rot
2. Make your favorite treats
Make your favorite fall treats such as apple pie, candy apples, or apple cider. You can shop for ingredients from bulk bins or recyclable/compostable packaging.
3. Borrow or buy Halloween costume second hand
Around Halloween season a lot of people go to the store and buy a costume that they only wear once. Instead you can
- borrow a costume from a friend
- Buy secondhand from a thrift store
- make your own Halloween costume
- rent your Halloween costume
- wear your Halloween costume from last year or if you cosplay a costume you already have
4. Haunted Drive throughs
You can go to a haunted drive through that is almost like going to a haunted house except you stay in your car the whole time.
5. Drive in movie theaters
6. Apple picking
You can go to a local farm or apple orchard near you to pick or buy your own apples. This way you are buying local and you have apples you can eat or use to bake a delicious treat.
7. Decorate your house
You can still decorate your house despite not being able to do as many things. One way to save money is decorate by season instead of holidays then storing them to reuse next year. For fall you could focus on a color scheme or something generic such as pumpkins. This can also be more sustainable because you are using your decorations more offten and buying less.
8. Jump into a leaf pile
